Dr Reddy is proving that world-class surgical recovery does not have to be found abroad

As many patients still look overseas for aesthetic procedures and recovery, Dr Reddy is building a South African model that brings surgery, post-operative care and luxury hospitality together in one destination.

Many patients considering aesthetic surgery still assume the best care and recovery experience can only be found abroad. Dr Reddy is challenging that idea through Vivari Hotel & Spa, a South African business built to combine surgical excellence, structured post-operative recovery and luxury hospitality in one integrated setting.
She saw a clear gap in the market. Patients travelling for aesthetic procedures were often receiving excellent clinical outcomes, but the recovery environment around that care remained fragmented and inconsistent. The surgery itself might be world-class, yet the healing environment, medical supervision and broader patient experience did not always match that standard. Vivari was built in response to that disconnect, with the aim of creating a controlled, end-to-end journey in which clinical care, recovery and hospitality work together. Dr Reddy believed the model could work in South Africa because the country already has world-class medical talent and strong hospitality infrastructure. The opportunity lay in integrating those strengths properly.
That is what gives Vivari its distinct position. It is not simply a cosmetic clinic with accommodation attached, nor is it just a luxury hotel with a wellness offering. Dr Reddy has positioned it as a recovery-led medical tourism environment, shaped by the understanding that recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. In practical terms, that means surgical care in a medically compliant facility, combined with structured post-operative recovery in a luxury setting. It is a level of integration she says is still rare globally and almost non-existent on the continent.
Her journey from medicine to entrepreneurship did not happen through a dramatic shift, but through a gradual expansion in thinking. Over two decades of building a practice, she developed the patient management discipline, operational rigour and quality control instincts that later made it possible to build at scale. One lesson, in particular, seems to sit at the heart of Vivari’s growth: healthcare does not scale through expertise alone. It scales through systems. That realisation helped move Dr Reddy from running a successful practice to building an integrated business platform.
Building that platform came with significant demands. Establishing South Africa’s first hotel-integrated hospital meant working across healthcare, hospitality and construction regulations, each with its own compliance requirements. It also required patience from an investment perspective. This is a capital-intensive model with a longer return horizon than many conventional hospitality or healthcare businesses. Operationally, the challenge was to align medical standards with the service levels expected in luxury hospitality. The task was not simply to build a premium environment, but to do so without compromising compliance or the guest experience.
The commercial logic behind the business is just as deliberate as the clinical one. From the outset, Vivari was never intended to be a single-service operation. It was structured as a diversified ecosystem, bringing together the hotel, spa, aesthetics and conferencing. That model does more than broaden the offer. It creates multiple revenue streams, reduces dependence on one part of the market and strengthens the business’s long-term resilience. It also reflects a founder thinking beyond brand appeal and toward durability, scalability and relevance in both domestic and international markets.
Dr Reddy’s view of luxury is also telling. In her reading of the South African market, luxury is no longer defined only by aesthetics or space. It is increasingly about privacy, experience and personalisation. In Vivari’s case, it is also about discretion and trust. When healthcare and hospitality meet, expectations rise. Clients are not simply paying for comfort. They are paying for seamlessness, confidence and the sense that every detail has been carefully considered. In that respect, Vivari’s proposition is not only about premium service. It is about reassurance.
There is also a strong strategic identity behind the business. Vivari is a 100% black-owned company with strong female leadership, and Dr Reddy has said that this was intentional from the beginning. For her, this is not just about representation. It has shaped the culture of the company itself, reinforcing independence, accountability, resilience and long-term thinking. In a competitive market, those qualities matter. They influence how a brand is built, how it is led and how it competes.
Its affiliation with the Mantis Collection under Accor has added another layer of strength. The relationship provides global distribution, brand credibility and access to international markets, while allowing Vivari to retain its own identity. For a South African brand operating in the luxury wellness and medical tourism space, that balance is important. It gives the business international reach without flattening the qualities that make it distinct.
The next phase of growth is focused on scaling the model further and refining Vivari’s position within medical tourism. Dr Reddy sees meaningful opportunity in the GCC, Europe and selected African markets. At the same time, the business is sharpening its identity as a destination for integrated wellness and recovery, not simply a place for procedures. That distinction is important because it speaks to where the value really lies. The appeal is not only the treatment itself, but the quality and coherence of the full experience around it.
Asked what leadership lesson has mattered most in her journey, Dr Reddy’s answer is clear: building something of value requires patience and discipline. In business, speed often gets the attention, but sustainability comes from structure. Knowing when to grow and when to stabilise, she argues, is one of the most overlooked disciplines in entrepreneurship.
That idea runs through the Vivari story. What Dr Reddy has built is not simply a hospitality brand, a wellness destination or a medical offering viewed in isolation. It is a business shaped around integration, where surgery, recovery and luxury are treated as part of the same experience. For patients who still assume they need to leave South Africa to find that standard of care, Vivari is making a strong case for staying closer to home.
